I want to switch from Windows XP Pro to Ubuntu using a factory live CD. Is there a certain way to re-enter the files and settings into Ubuntu? How much stuff is unnecessary?
Do you mean that you want to remove windows xp and to instal ubuntu.or you want to add your ubuntu cd in the drive and boot on it?you can use UNetbootinhttp://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
Sorry,I should have been more specific.I want to uninstall XP Pro(Dell Dimension 2400 Desktop) and replace it with Ubuntu 10.40 LTS Desktop Edition wich the nice folks over at Canonical Ltd. were kind enough to send me.I am vaguely familiar with Windows-to-Windows process, but have just recently started playing around with Linux(via the Multiboot tool from Linux Pen Drives).I need to find out how to make the switch and retain the personal files & settings and which apps are compatible.Thank You and anyone else who can help.
