What strength power supply do I need to run an ATI 5570?

mark July 25, 2011

Just bought Acer M3400 Desktop 6 core, 4MB RAM, has currently got GeForce 315. But I see they also use an ATI 5570, same factory spec setup as mine, 250W power.

How is it possible to run this card with such a small power supply? Can I buy this card or better without spending out on new power supply? If so what do you recommend? I am not a hardcore gamer, just need to keep playing old games at their best.

That's the total system power draw, not just the video card, Fidelis. While it might come close, you can probably run it without any problems.

Hello, according to the following benchmark link: http://www.techspot.com/review/245-ati-radeon-hd-5570/page9.html the ati radeon 5570 consumes 211 watts when stress tested and 153 when idle.  I would say that regardless of what graphics card your desktop has, 250w sounds really low.  Remember that the psu has to be able to supply enough power for dvd/cd/blueray optical disks, harddrive, graphics card, fans, etc.  I would say that if you get a power supple with around 600 watts you are ok.
