How can I stop VLC from opening in safe mode?

Dustin D Wilkinson January 26, 2012

When I open any VLC file it opens in safe mode & I cannot view it regularly…I’ve done malaware & virus scans & I have no other operating problems. What could be the issue?

You can try resetting its configuration by copy the regular shortcut and changing it to

    vlc --reset-config --reset-plugins-cache

Right click and open files with vlc player.
Remove and reinstall vlc media player.

Hello, what operating system are you running?  Is this a new VLC installation?  You could try removing  the vlc folder in %appdata%.  This should reset your VLC installion to default.  Try the following:

    WINDOWS 7:
    -- click on start
-- in search box, type the following: %appdata%
    -- click on Roaming folder
-- you can either rename or delete entry
-- restart your system or log off user, then log back in
    -- start VLC

    Manual entry is:
C:UsersXXXXXAppDataRoaming  -- check under Roaming Folder.  AppData is a hidden folder.

    -- click on start
    -- click on run
    -- type %appdata%
    -- rename/delete VLC entry
    -- restart system
    -- start VLC

If you want to look for it manually, navigate to following folder:

C:Documents and Settings|XXXXXApplication Data  (XXXX should be your user name)

are you using VLC in sandbox of your antivirus? then set it in exclusion list?
    You can always uninstall VLC, reboot and reinstall, and if your antivirus want to block VLC, or run in sandbox, check No and always remember this..;

Remove or rename the %appdata%vlc folder. This hope will reset VLC settings
