I opened a file named “Burnout(TM) Paradise The Ultimate Box” and it changed all my start menu items and other icons on the desktop into LNK files. How can I resolve this?

to keep your customized file associations, restore to an early system point using system restore.

Hello, first of all I would give your computer a full scan with your antivirus/antimalware. You could download the portable version of superantispyware:
Once downloaded run, run the SAS_***.com file by clicking on it. Run a full scan and get rid of any entries found. After doing this, give your computer a full scan with your antivirus. If everything checks clean you can download the .exe fixer file. If you are running windows 7, download the .exe fixer file from the following location:
you have file association corruption, which windows you have?
1. Open the Registry Editor (click Windows + R, type regedit, hit enter).
2. Navigate to this registry branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFileExts.lnk
3. Find the subkey called User Choice and delete it.
4. Close Registry Editor.
5. Reboot.
thanking you sir ............
my pc working properly
