How can I sort out photos according to proper numeral order?

Suhel February 24, 2012

My company’s project has photos auto-generated by our systems. The photos are auto-named numerically, i.e. 1,2,3 all the way up to 400. Now these photos need to be in proper sequence. I’ve used Windows Live Gallery, Windows Photo Viewer and Infra View. But whenever I see the photos the sequence is alphabetical which means the photos are ordered 1,10,11,12….etc. Is there any program that can organize photos numerically.

Thanks to all the comments. I got something new to learn. I tried out something new too. I'd archive of many old folder having the same sequennce. I just used search option ".jpg" then I chose sort by folder and then clicked sort according to date modified. and it worked like a charm :))

Hello, this is what you could do:

-- open folder where pictures are
-- on menu, click on view tab
    -- hightlight sort by
    -- click on more
    -- checkmark #
    -- click on ok

Windows 7. In XP, you could try something similar but the # option is not there:

-- go to folder where pictures are
        -- click on view
        -- click on choose details
-- checkmark any details you want shown
        -- click on ok

    Hello Suhel,

Open your folder where your photos are.
Then Right click anywhere in the folder where there are white spaces.Don't right click over the images...

Once the menu pops down move your mouse over Sort by
Then select Name and below select ascending

That's it your pictures will be sorted in ascending order starting from one.

You can see the picture here on how to do::

    I hope it helped

so, you want them to remain them in the same auto generated numerical order ?
    if yes ,
then you can sort them by name in the folder, and then it should be in the order.

    If not,
sort them in the order of your choice in the folder (manually).
    select all.
    right click and rename.
type a name and hit enter.
now you have named them according to the order of your choice, so you can sort them by name.

I know, they are in one folder,
sort them in the folder according to your choice.
        select all and rename.
        if you enter abc...
all the image will be renamed as acc001, abc002,abc003...abcN

N= total number of images in the folder.

        now sort them by name.
