I would like to know about software that can optimize my Internet connection. It is very slow and I need some help improving it.

Try threatening to leave your ISP for someone else - they will often (at least in the UK) upgrade you or reduce their charges to keep you. You could also update your browser to the latest version 10 - click on help, about Firefox and it will update automatically.

If you are connected through a router (instead of a direct connection to your modem), you may be able to adjust settings there to help improve throughput for certain types of applications, but it depends on your internet connection speed, the type of modem and its configuration, the make/model of the router and its configuration as well as your TCP/IP settings on the computer.  The least impact will be with the config of your TCP/IP stack which is what most software can or will adjust.  The rest requires either research on your part or finding an experienced technician who really knows what he is doing to tweak router and modem configurations for best performance.

The biggest thing to remember here is that how you use the internet will determine the best configuration for your modem and router.  For example, you will want to use different settings for streaming audio or video content than if you do a lot of online gaming.

Other than these basic considerations, your only other real option is to upgrade your package from your ISP.

Be careful if you decide to take the software tweaking of your TCP/IP stack.  Most software that claims to improve your internet performance in this manner have minimal effect at best.  It is common to end up with worse performance after these automatic adjustments, so make sure it can be easily reversed.  I have also been called in to get the internet working again for people who have tried these "solutions" as well since it can render your stack inoperable even after attempting to "reverse" its changes.

Hello, most times this is due to the package you are paying for.  If your internet is really slow, usually the best option is to upgrade your package.  Now if you are paying for a decent package, it is best to talk to your ISP and see if they can check your connection.

you can try the free version of latencyoptimizer, in the free version the optimization will be small, perhpas it can fix some of your problems.
also if you shut down your antivirus do you see any internet speed?

If your internet connection is slow in general there isn't much a software can do. That is something your provider has to look into.

All those tools are primarily to tweak the connection.
For example one can make a few changes to tweak the connection for either latency or data throughput but results are in a very small percentile.

    Speedguide Analyzer
    Speedguide TCP Optimizer

Just don't expect your speed to double or anything. If you are lucky you will see an increase of 1-3%.
