Can I replace my MacBook Pro’s DVD drive with a hard drive?

Gwen Kent November 29, 2011

What size is the internal hard drive in my MacBook Pro 15″? Can I remove the DVD drive and put a 2nd hard drive in the DVD bay? If so, where do I buy a kit for that?

To get your current Hard Drives size:
Select the Macintosh HD icon and in the menu select "File > Get Info" (cmd + i) or simply "right-click > Get Info".
Another option is to click the Apple logo in the top left and select About this Mac and click the "More Info.." button. The System Profiler will open where you have to navigate to the SATA devices to see your Hard Drives model and total size.

As for replacing the SuperDrive there are options:

Hello, as long as you use a standard laptop drive (9.5 mm) you should be ok.

You could use an enclosure such as the one shown on the link to replace your dvd drive.  Make sure it is compatible with your model:
