I need something more advanced than windows movie maker. I have a Windows 7 64 bit operating system. I would prefer the software to be free.

If you have a fast internet connection, http://www.jaycut.com is definitely worth checking out. This also applies to other online video editors - I find that there are a lot better web-based free video editing options, but once again, you need a fast video editor.
I've also used Wax (http://www.debugmode.com/wax/) in the past, but it has given me headaches depending on what computer I'm using, and I haven't tried it on win7 yet.

Jahshaka. Worth the headaches if you want to get more serious than WMM offers. For most of my applications, WMM works just fine, but there are some features I need it doesn't offer, but I try to live without cuz I know it so well. I have Premier and jsut don't like it, for some crazy reason, always go back to WMM or Jahshaka.

There is also a Cinelerra, a video editing software used by many professionals for high quality video production. Cinelerra does mainly three things: capturing, compositing, and editing. Check it out at CineFX

John,
what do you want to do that needs a more advanced software than Windows Movie Maker?
