Can you recommend a free photo editing and printing software?

Mrs B August 16, 2010

I’m looking for some good free photograph editing software. What I want to do is re-touch, re-size and enhance some digital photos I have loaded from my camera, then send to my printer to print. Nothing too tricky, but decent software.

Thanks in advance,
Mrs B.

ImageForge is free software that allows image editing with painting and editing tools. One notable feature of this software is that it allows the users to import files from the dig cams and the scanners. While editing it also allows you to select from a wide range of special effects filters. Once you are done editing your photographs, you can create photo albums and slideshows using ImageForge.

I would recommend PhotoScape for basic editting and printing (Unless you want to spend hours tweeking every aspect of your picture then GIMP is for you)

You may like Paint.NET, which is not quite as powerful as the GIMP, but easier to learn. IrfanView is another excellent program, but less powerful on the image editing side. I don't know if it will suffice for you, but it's worth a try.

You can also check out GIMP but it is a bit more complicated than Picasa. Check out these articles linking to tutorial sites to help you learn the GIMP:

Google's Picasa is pretty great if you're looking for something easy to use; works on Windows, Mac and Linux.
