I use 1and1Mail ( to send mass emails for a long long time. I have compared it with other email marketing software, and the reasons that I like 1and1Mail best are:

    1. It's a light weight program. When you keep your email marketing program running the whole day to send out emails, it does not consume much of your system resource.
    2. It's simple. It doesn't have many fancy feautres, but it's sufficient for all small to medium businesses.
    3. It's quite easy-to-use. It has some tooltips to guide you through the whole email marketing process. Very user-friendly for new users.

I'll recommend MailChimp too, it's a really great product for individuals and companies can use it too.

my pet peeve with most emailers is that they require their own ad/link at the bottom of every email they send. that's just wrong.

I would recommend Mail Chimp as well.
    The free account gives you
    *Store up to 500 subscribers
*Send up to 3,000 emails a month

and has all the basic features that you would need

I would strongly recommend Aweber. We use it here on It's not free and starts at 19$ a month but definitely THE BEST email list management and email marketing tool out there.

The thing is with such tools, you can't really change them along the way without loosing a significant part of your subscribers so it's important to choose the right one from the very beginning. I strongly recommend Aweber. If you want to give it a try before hand I think they have 30 days money back guarantee. Check it out.

Oh and if you still need something free no matter what then check out MailChimp. There is a free account option.
