Why does a mouse middle click no longer open a new background tab in Chrome?

Chad September 15, 2010

With the new Chrome auto-update I can no longer middle click a link and have it open in a new backgrounded tab. It just goes back a page. Anyone else experiencing this?

    I had same problem ... maybe only dirt under the button/wheel inside the mouse?

    Did you tried this
    - configure Right Click and Middle Click to open links in new Background or Foreground tab;
    - remove target="_blank" from links (enabled by default). So there will be no more links that open in a new tab when left-clicked;
    - set the middle click to open a bookmark in a new foreground t

    The extension https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/lcimnckjiicikfpppcgnjhiflibbnbel (replaces the function of the v shortcut)

    Open _new & _blank in new background tab

    Middle click with touchpad (assuming Windows and synaptics):

    possible ChromePlus can be an alternative.

    or if its logitech then use the included Logitech software (setPoint) and reassign the mouse wheel click to "middle button"

    Well uninstal chrome and clean pc then reinstal again. If you have some extensions then possible they can interfer. So first try without your extensions.

    you should be able to use "Middle click" option in Main Tabs.

    If you are using a wheel mouse, ensure that it is set-up to perform the middle click function when clicking. On a pc you can see how it is set-up using the control panel, mouse.check the settings in my your (suppose logitech) control center, and get sure enough the scroll wheel wasn't set to middle click as default.see if this extension (middle button new tab) will solve your problemhttps://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/ikbkhpkapkmhaoiabhlkmicpeakhhpip

      Hi, thanks for the reply.

      Where is the "middle click option in Main Tabs" ?
      I used to be able to middle click a link and open in new background tab. And middle click just dead white space would go 'back'. Latest Chrome auto-update changed this. Now middle click just goes back no matter where I click.

      Mouse control panel is the logitech control panel. Middle click can't be turned off, only set to 'unassigned' . None of this was changed before. Nor changes anything now.

      Also, middle-button-new-tab chrome extension does not work.
      Hmm. Tough one,
      but thanks again.
