My yahoo email account has been hacked and some of my contacts have been receiving strange emails. How do I stop this from happening? Thanks!

I also strongly recommend enabling 2-step verification for your Yahoo! account. Follow this guide to easily set this up. Instead of just a password, your account will require a code texted to your phone or a code generated by an app. This will keep your account much more secure than just a password.

Change your password immediately, and it will likely stop immediately.

Thanks Tim, I did try that but still my contacts are receiving strange emails. I will probably set up a new email account.

For those strange emails, mark them as spam so that next time, they will land directly to spam folder.

You can also setup filters to deal with such mails properly.

I think Yahoo did a real good job by keep on tracking IP Address to protect users like us. The best thing we can do is to make sure that you - Set up your second sign-in verification or Secret Questions. If you want to keep it toooo easy, just set you Secret Questions and have a complex password having upper case, lower case, number and special chars.
