My wife trades currencies online, and in order to get the news from the Far East markets leaves her laptop on throughout the entire night. Very often she forgets the sound on and at 4 am or something news start arriving, and I have to go and switch the sound off.
Does anybody know of a free program where you set that say at 00:30 the sound goes mute, and automatically comes back at the previous value say at 08:00?
Thanks!
Luca
Have you thought about creating an administrator account that limits the utilization of media after a certain point of night is passed?
Try System Silencer (freeware):

That's a really unfortunate situation!
I believe you can simply set power management to shut down or hibernate if left idle for X amount of time. For example, if you knew your wife was finished with work at 12:00am, then you would set, in Window's Power Options to shut down or hibernate if left idle for an hour or so. That way, the computer would be turned off by the time 4am rolled around.
A more elegant and precise method would be to set the task scheduler in Windows 7 to automatically shut the computer down at a certain time.
Hope that was of help!

Although, the instructions are same for Windows 7 too.
Tell her to turn the volume off? Ha ha. Joking. I think hibernate disables volume while everything on the computer still runs. But sometimes computers make noise no matter what you do. I don't exactly know. I hope I helped! Best of luck to you!
