Is is worth its price to buy a mp4 player rather than an mp3?

I bought a mp3 no-brand shuttle. Had it for 3 years and suddenly it just stop playing and plus lost all of my music. I used it for ‘power walking’. Now, I really need the exercise an I am in need of a new player, I like the idea of the video and music opportunity, but is it really better just because it is newer! And the price is almost the same for both! The article on the differences in the players, didn’t help, I am not a computer expert, just use it because it’s a must for everything, now and the apps. and the educational value, is good too. Now please, what is the real difference, would you settle for a MP3 and not the MP4?

Go with MP4 player as this newer technology may also have improved battery controller and thus longer play time between charging.

If you're only going to listen to audio buy an MP3 player. If you're going to watch videos as well then buy an MP4 player. It really is as simple as that.

Suppose,if you find a MP3 player and MP4 player with same or similar price or negligible difference, then focus on points such as good music production, battery life, storage capacity extensibility, performance on headphones etc.. for both devices. You can do this by reading the reviews of MP3 and MP4 player.

According to me,if you get a same price for MP3 and MP4 player, then you must get MP3 player as there must be corner cuttings in MP4 player as it costs to put an LCD screen to it.

The technical advantages of MP4 over MP3 are not huge (leaving aside the video, which it doesn't sound like you're interested in). So, if you can get an audio player which supports mp4 for the same price as mp3, why not, but don't spend a lot more just for that one feature.

Junil and ha14 have good advice since it really depends on what you need it to versus want it to do. A screen that lights up and shows videos will use more battery life, though if you are only going to listen to music, then the screen would be off and battery life would not suffer as much. It is always nice to have some videos to watch during times that you aren't or don't want to listen to music. It helps to pass the time a little easier watching a video than just listening to music (and then looking at a clock, which can make it seem like time slows down). If the price is the same and the storage space is the same, then go for the mp4 player (it holds value better than an mp3 player). As a warning, though, any videos you add will take up much more storage space than a song (4-5MB per song versus 25-300+MB for videos, depending on length and quality). As ha14 suggests, you would have to convert the video before transferring it to the mp4 player, but the converter software should be included.

Consider why you want the device. What will you use it for. If video is something you will watch on it go for it. However If you already have a tablet or phone for that than ask why you want to pay more for a function you get elsewhere. Once you have defined how and where you will use it you will likely have your answer. Good luck.

There is nothing special about MP4 players. Your cellphone is most probably capable to function as a video player if you want and it will play MP3s too. If you really want to buy a separate device, then buy an MP3 player, not MP4 players because you will save money and get a long battery life.

well video use more battery, if video is not your primary concern then just mp3 can be just fine for you. Also many mp4 needs conversion of video in order to display.

if it is both the same price, it would be good to buy the mp4 which can play both audio and video files. you can watch videos when you are not doing exercises.
