I am a mechanical engineer and I use Ansys 13 for my job. I want to purchase Windows 8, but I don’t know if this software is compatible with it. Does anyone know?

Nothing to worry u can confidently purchase WINDOWS 8 (dont purchase RT version ,IT is not good for all users). all windows 7 programmes works well on WIN8 (tested on my pc) ,U are able to run programmes for WIN xp in WIN8 using compatibility mode.
But windows 7 programes didt have any compatibility issue on win8..
You have careful about ur bit of os and programme, it must be same ( Use x86 programme on ur 32 bit system )
