Can I install Bentley on my computer?

sahil February 4, 2011

I want to install Bentley on my computer. Can someone tell me all the pre-requisites for the software? I have Autodesk AutoCAD 2011 installed on my computer and installed MicroStation as well.

My configurations are:
320 GB HDD
256 Kbps Broadband connection

This [very generic] error usually means that some required ressource (like a .dll file, or something else) is either not present or not compatible with the Software you are trying to run.

This can be pretty much everything:
        - DirectX component
        - dotNET Framework
        - Microsoft Visual C++
        - any other given System or Software ressource

InRoads XM will not run on AutoCAD 2009 - 2011

This was posted on the Bentley forum ~ it does conflict with the requirements but since you are using AutoCAD 2011 I guess this is definitely one of the problems. You should replace it with AutoCAD 2009 or earlier.

After that I would try and see if any of the Applications required for InRoads encounter the same problem [by starting each of them individually].

If this "has encountered a problem" is limited to the InRoads software you should try deinstalling and reinstalling it (you can also try the Repair option but most of the time a complete reinstall is more likely to fix installation problems)

Before beginning the silent installation, MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 1) Update must be installed. Otherwise, the InRoads Group will not install

There are several public properties which can be specified on the "msiexec" command line for the 'Bentley InRoads Group' MSI file.

    Parameter Name Description

The directory into which the InRoads Group program and associated files will be installed. This value must be quoted if it contains spaces or other characters that are reserved by the command shell.

Specifies either MicroStation or AutoCAD. MicroStation is the default if not specified.

Specifies either Metric or Imperial. Imperial is the default if not specified.

An example command line for msiexec is:

    msiexec.exe /i "C:BentleyDownloadsInRoadsBentley InRoads Group V8i (SELECTseries 1).msi" /l*v c:silent.log /qn INSTALLDIR="d:InRoads Group" CIV_PLATFORM=AutoCAD CIV_PREFERENCES=Metric

    /i - Normal installation

    /l*v c:silent.log - Produces a log of the installation

/qn - Suppresses the UI of the installer. /qn is a silent install and /qn+ is a silent installation with a single modal dialog indicating that the installation is complete.

Setting Parameters for Bentley InRoads Group Silent Uninstall
An example command line for msiexec is:

    msiexec.exe /x "C:BentleyDownloadsInRoadsBentley InRoads Group V8i (SELECTseries 1).msi" /qn

    /x - Normal uninstall.

Hello, didn't you get installation instructions and system requirements when you got the program?

    Here you go:

I found the following System Requirements for this Software

    MicroStation V8i (Version 08.11.05), AutoCAD 2008, or AutoCAD 2009

Intel Pentium-based or AMD AthlonTM-based PC or workstation

    operating Systems:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional (SP2 or higher), Windows XP Professional x64, Microsoft Windows Vista, or Windows Vista x64

1GB (More memory typically results in better performance)

    disk Space:
1GB minimum free disk space (which includes the 400MB install footprint for a complete installation)
