How can I import email from Windows Outlook to Mac Outlook?

Craig Branch November 30, 2011

I am trying to import an Outlook .pst file from a Windows 7 machine into Microsoft Outlook on a Mac running Lion. It imports the ‘directory’ structure, but the actual email messages don’t show up. I am exporting without a password. Is this an ‘ownership’ issue?

In general importing an Windows PST file on Outlook for Mac works fine. I have done it on several occasions.

Is it possible you are using an IMAP or Exchange account on your Windows computer? If that's the case make sure all emails are fully downloaded and locally stored.

Hello, have you tried the following:

-- in windows, export your emails to a .pst file
-- if your computers are networked, move your file to your mac,
if your computers are not networked, you could use a flashdrive
-- if you use a flashdrive, connect drive to your mac and copy the file to a place in your mac where you can find it easily
    -- open outlook for mac
-- on menu, click on file
    -- select import
    -- select outlook data file
-- click on right arrow button at bottom
-- select outlook for windows data file
-- click on right arrow button again
-- navigate to where you saved the .pst file and select it
    -- click on import
    -- click on done
