How to import Corel Draw file made in differing versions of the software?

How to open, or convert, a Corel Draw .CDR file made in higher version into a lower version, if you don’t have higher version installed ?

My new office has Corel Draw version x3 installed. I need to edit a file made in version x5.

Is there any way I can open it in x3 without having to buy version x5?

It is a bad thing from Corel to force users to buy a new version!

There's no straightforward way to do this without the later version of Corel Draw, but if you are stuck you can use Zamzar ( to convert the files to a usable bitmap file (e.g. .bmp or .jpg) and open those files. Unfortunately, you will lose the "vectorness" of the graphics.
