Can you help me in preventing email from a certain address from being detected as spam and missing the Inbox in Gmail?

You can either white list the address or, keep check not spam each and every time, and eventually gmail will learn (this takes a long time as far as I know).

If it is already in the Spam folder, open the mail and mark it as "Not spam".
Else, either add the email to your contacts or use labels.

Add the sender email address into your contact/address list. As for me, I would group all the mailing list email contacts in a separate group, so that I can easily look and remove them when needed.

The address book advice is solid, but Gmail should also figure things out if you hit the "not spam" button enough times. Good luck.

Simplest way is to add that senders email address to the Gmail contact list. This way it becomes trusted and the emails sent will not land in Spam.
