How can I regain access to my Hotmail account when the recovery link doesn’t work?

Please help I’m getting very frustrated! Yesterday I was unable to access my Windows Live or Hotmail accounts. I got a message saying my account had been used by someone else and I needed to reset my passwords. I followed all of the instructions and got a link sent to an alternative email.

Every time I click on the link and it says there’s a temporary problem with the service, please try again and that if I continue to get this message, try again later.

No amount of try again later helps! I need my email urgently! Any ideas?

Try this link for more specific Outlook Online help: - there is no more Hotmail I'm gathering, everybody is converted to Outlook online I think.

I agree. Check that link. Another way to be more sure it is a legitimate link that you received, is to instll Web of Trust (WOT): It will automatically put tiny green circles next to good links I think in both Email and your browser. Bad links get red and potentially bad ones get orange circles. Furthermore if you accidently click on a red circle link it will throw up a pop-up window asking you if you really want to do that.

I find it very useful, although not 100% right. I suggest try installing it and then going back to that EMail and see if they would give you a red circle and orange one or a green one. Links that they don't about by the way get an also tiny blue icon.

So your entire system may be compromised pretending that your Hotmail account is blocked. Also I would actually be very careful about looking for Hotmail Customer Service. I looked up using those keywords and found the first 5 or 6 results to be potentially scamming or at least probably expensive private technical support sites.

The real Customer Support Number for Microsoft appears to be (800) MICROSOFT (642-7676).
      In Canada, call (877)568-2495.
Microsoft Customer Service hours of operation:
Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM - 9:00 PM Pacific Time
Saturday and Sunday, 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM Pacific Time

I got that number and info from:

Try to call them at customer service and see if you can get it done manually. Also, they ahve recently changed over to Outloo(I think?) that might be why the service is down. Going through some changes will often cause pains from growing.

Actually, I guess you might have to do it over e-mail. But still, its Microsoft-owned, now, so you've got to be able to get on the phone with them somehow.
