How can I make Skype stop freezing, lagging, and disconnecting?

OutbackZack May 1, 2013

I have very high Internet speed yet my Skype video calls are slow, then freeze, and disconnect. It says there is a connection problem which makes no sense!

Please help urgently!

What version are you running? Click on Help > About Skype for the specific version number.

Uninstalling and reinstalling often doesn't help unless the uninstall is "complete."

But you might try resetting your Skype configuration using this procedure:

Quit Skype. Hold the Windows key and type r. In the box that comes up type %appdata% . Scroll down to find the Skype folder and rename it something like Skype_old. Restart Skype.

Note: Renaming the Skype folder will move IM and call history to the renamed folder. They can be recovered with a few extra steps.

If the problem persists, when it's happening open Task Manager. How much CPU is Skype using, and how much RAM?

Try buying a Solid State drive (SSD) and switching your OS to that. Hard drive speed may effect processing of internet packets.

Also call up your ISP and ask for advice...

Maybe you should try another VoIP program. See this MUO article - //

The connection is between you and whoever you are calling, not just you and your ISP. If there is a connection problem, you need to look at the entire path. If whoever you are calling is on a much slower connection, it could be the cause of your issues.
