How can I make my site open as www. instead of http://?

I have installed WordPress on my site.

At the time of installation they were all installed as not as or When site is opened in browser, it only show as

Though they both are opening . ie with http:// or www.. But my preference is that it should be visible as

Can you please guide how can I correct this. Iam about to install wordpress on my site other site.Please advice how can i make sure that it is visible as

    After i have changed the settings and try to save it iam getting following error. Please advice

    You can do it easily by just going to and changing
    WordPress Address (URL) from to
    Site Address (URL) from to
    and click Save changes

    There is no difference between http://www. and www. unless you were encrypting the website. So there is nothing to fix, it's just the different ways different browser display URLs, you can't change it.

      Yeah, I prefer to go without the WWW on my sites but it really doesn't matter anymore.

    If you are running on Apache, the mod_rewrite module is installed and you are allowed to override server settings with the .htaccess file, you can simply add the following rules to the .htaccess file to automatically perform the redirect:

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^$ [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$$1 [R=301,L]

    Microsoft's IIS also has a rewrite module, but I have never used it. Information on how to use it is available on their TechNet site.
