How can I limit uTorrent’s available bandwidth on my system?

Arun Vishnu December 14, 2012

Whenever I connect my system to the Internet uTorrent uses my available bandwidth and I am unable to browse the Web. How can I decrease its bandwidth usage?

You can limit bandwidth for Upload and Download on each torrent individually, via right-click

In general, if you go to 'options' menu and select preferences... there is a 'connection' tab, where you can limit max upload and download bandwidth.

    Hope it helps

Options -> preference -> bandwidth and set it. 0 means unlimited so set max upload speed about 5 kb/s

You could also temporarily limit the bandwidth, whenever you want the maximum availability of your internet connection for example.

You can do that by using the "Scheduler". You can change the settings (which bandwidth when should be used etc) in Settings (Preferences > Settings). You can then enable/disable the scheduler from your system tray (Right click > Enable/Disable Scheduler). Or just by right clicking on the status bar at the bottom of µTorrent.

You can easily set the maximum upload and the download rate though in the spirit of torrents, I would suggest you don't do it unless, it really clogs your system badly.

First, go to Option >> Preferences. Then on the left panel, click Bandwidth. Now, on the right panel, there are two sections called "Global Upload Rate Limiting" and "Global Download Rate Limiting", respectively.
