How can i get running Wifi in acer Aspire E1-531?
Best you can upgrading your system from current os of ubuntu 10.4 to 12.04.3 LTS it can help u a lot and this free os of 12.04.3 LTS can end in by 2017 upto you wont have any troble
By using your intenet connections
Step 1:Open terminal by hold down Ctrl+Alt+T key
Step2:Type sudo apt-get update click enter and enter your password of root user it will fetch some of files to your system
Step3:Type sudo apt-get upgrade.
then it will download some pakages and automatically it can install in to your system by changing the newer version
Step 3 is wrong in this case. 'sudo apt-get upgrade' will just install any updated packages for the currently installed distro release. What you need here in order to upgrade the distribution itself to a new version is 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade.' The version you upgrade to here also depends on settings in Update Manager. If it is set to 'lts', it will upgrade you to the latest long-term support version. If it is set to 'normal,' it will upgrade you to the latest version released (not necessarily a LTS version).
Official support for 10.04 LTS ended May 9th, so you may want to consider upgrading the OS to a currently supported version such as 12.04 LTS which will be supported until 2017. It is possible that the required drivers already exist in its repositories.
maybe this can help?
open a terminal: type
sudo apt-get install --reinstall bcmwl-kernel-source
after finishing type:
sudo modprobe wl
If you know what WiFi chipset is used, you can download the driver from Ubuntu repositories. You can also try upgrading to the Ubuntu 13.10.
