How can I find out who is calling me?

Maria April 25, 2013

Today I received a call from 01xxxxxxx43.

How can I find out who is calling me? Is there a possibility I can block and recognize such calls earlier?

Editor’s note: Number removed.

Nix my last response, If it's a US based phone number, go to and enter the phone number including area code (xxx-xxx-xxxx) and a link for Phonenumberdata will popup. I've had decent results.

None of the unknown phone numbers I have in my list came up on TrueCaller. You may have better luck with one of the two:
    * Facebook Search -- enter the phone number, you may get a profile

@Terry - Facebook search is the exact reason I deleted my cellphone number. Even if marked private or friends only, Facebook appears to be too desperate since their IPO fallout that any random person can use search bar or "graph" to land on my, previously well-protected Facebook page. Add Facebook's appropriation of my email contacts, I have changed my associated email account to one reserved for spam. Just want to see pics from college aged nieces and nephews, not become a public entity.

I use Reverse Lookup ( for calls after the fact.

I had used TrapCall back when it was free, but it was too much of a nuisance after a while & now there isn't even a free option. I don't get enough of those calls to justify paying for it. But it's interesting how it works. Apparently when you call to an 800 # you can't be blocked since they're the one paying for the call. So when an unidentified call comes in it gets forwarded through their 800 # - and unblocked - then it is forwarded back to you with the correct info.

Although a lot of the nuisance calls are spoofed VOIP coming from Asia or something, so I don't know how effective it would be for that kind of thing.

I agree with the Truecaller app. I've never had a number come through that it didn't ID.

you can report to security in your town to do some search or your provider to take necessary action. There should be some application like ignore call based on phone number...

I am using True Caller on my Android mobile. The application search and tells you the name & location of caller. App It is available for Android, iPhone, Nokia, Windows Phone, Blackberry, etc.
You can download it without risk.

It is not 100% foolproof, but at least it is better than the rest and not having anything. It can only give you the info if that number is in the global directory, otherwise hardluck. I faced the same problem, and it worked at least 70% of the times. :)
