How can I find out what my children are up to using their iPhone 5?

Khanh Tran April 30, 2013

I want to find out what my children are up to at sometime. It would be nice to be sure of their safety. I equipped each one with an iPhone 5. Is there any software to track my children’s safety?

The app from Apple called Find My Friends should do the trick without jailbreaking. They may not be so happy that you are tracking them if they know, but if set up it should allow you to check on their location at any time.

I'd strongly recommend not installing such spy software in the first place. By doing so you'll be jailbreaking the phone, voiding the warranty and potentially opening the phone up to malware and any unsigned code. Jailbreaking means installing non-Apple approved software, which can mean any software from anybody.

Many apps won't work on jailbroken phones, like video streaming apps or banking apps. Also these spy softwares are almost exclusively using a subscription model. When you update the phone and you can no longer jailbreak (because jailbreaking takes time and effort to surface for new releases of iOS) do you think these companies will refund or cancel your subscription? Nope, they're pretty much all scams.

I've recently written an article about this which you can read below. We also get a lot of spam answers advertising companies like TruSpy which we have to delete on an almost daily basis here on Answers. Do legitimate companies advertise in such a way? Perhaps a better question is: Do legitimate products NEED to be advertised in such a way?

I am a bit surprised, for the question she posed, why would she need to jailbreak the iPhones. I gave the solution of Life360 Family Locater ( ), which will keep a track of her kids, but does not need any jailbreak.

Well... You can supervise them while they are using it. And if you can... Try to sneak it away from them and then go to the history of the web pages they searched.

I am really surprised to see, that I got negatively dinged for giving the correct solution. Probably the person who marked me negatively, do not have a clue of what Life360 does. Would be nice if she/he can visit the official website , read it a bit and checkout if the solution does or do not fit to the the question that was asked. Cheers!!!

Also do visit the bottom of the webpage to read the customer testimonials, including mothers.

With the subscription model, you need not even install an app, you just enter the kid's phone number and reply yes from the sms she/he will receive in their mobile, and the tracking starts.

Tell them to hand it over and look through it. should really be as simple as that.

Or, to be more like a spy, you can use this:

You can track the phone. Lock/unlock it. Record call info and SMS.
