Hitman works very well and is very fast. Just make sure you download the right version. Either 64 Bit or 32 bit

You were using a networked computer with no current anti-virus software??? Save your files to an external HDD or flashdrive and reinstall everything. This time include anti-virus software and make sure its updated regularly.

I have installed Microsoft Security Essentials on my laptop. It doesnt make my pc slow and seems good so far. I have also installed Iobit Malware fighter which is free but without premium features. You can read the article on this site which has listed top anti virus programs for windows. I read the same and decided on above 2 anti virus programs for my laptop.

Hi Jordan. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is very good:
Plus the latest AVG Anti Virus Free 2013:
I'm impressed with both and have them both just to make double sure if one misses something.

I would suggest Combofix. It is used to clear out some of the less-known viruses..

I prefer Windows Security Esentials along with ClamAV. You can use both of them at a time. (Do not try other combinations. Not all antivirus softwares are mutually compatible).

Avira and Avast. They are the only one I've found best. As I've searched a lot for antiviruses, struggled different websites, read reviews. Avira is best and then Avast.
People also say AVG is best but it use more resources and also heavy. Avira is a bit heavy but it is realtime. In Avast you'll not find any stop or cancel button while downloading updates. So you'll get stuck once you clicked Start updates (bad for slow connections). Also it'll never tell you how many MBs are left. But why I liked it because it provides overall protection (but that's also more than enough). You can see its screenshots. I changed my mind. Instead of editing whole comment I better say it's Avira!

No it is best to run one virusprogram at the time. ( they can interfere with eachother or see the other program as a virus, stuff like that )

I think avast is the best one, but i recommend to run other ( online ) scanners every now and then. Like Kapersky or mcAfee.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for cleaning viruses from a system. CCleaner for general system cleanup to get rid of the unnecessary crap on a system.
