How can I fix a failed installation of AVG in Windows XP?

pati May 16, 2011

I tried to install the free version of AVG on my Windows XP computer. Please don’t ask me for any other specifics, don’t know them, don’t understand them.

Anyway, I can’t get it to install and I can’t take it out. Just keep getting a message saying that it has to be restarted to reboot , but it never does. I just get that message many times, while I am working on the computer.

Hello, go to the following link and download the avg uninstaller:

Once downloaded run the tool and you should be able to uninstall avg with all the entries it installs on registry.  I would advice to use the following antivirus.  It is also free:

Try uninstalling in safe mode. You can enter safe mode by tapping F8 while the computer is booting.

    Also try Revo Uninstaller:

If you are installing AVG and the installation process fails, there are several steps you can take to install AVG successfully.

fix from AVG is now available. A file called can be downloaded from the
official website. The file msvcfix.bat can be extracted from this archive file. Put
the .bat in the same folder as the executable installation file, and run
msvcfix.bat. Installing AVG 9 should work by using this method.

and run the "Reset Access" file from AVG, then try installing
AVG again. You should also temporary disable the real-time protection of other
    anti-spyware programs
