Why don’t my USB 2.0 flash drives work in USB 3.0 ports?

Anonymous May 28, 2014

I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It has 4 USB 3.0 ports; I have a 2.0 USB flash drive.

I cannot insert the USB 2.0 flash drive into any of the 3.0 ports.

Is there an adapter or another solution?

As Matt says, this does not make sense. USB "A" connectors (the type you get on laptops, USB drives etc) are physically the same for USB 2.0 & 3.0, except that in USB 3.0 the little connector plates are usually coloured blue...

I suggest reading the laptop's manual, which may help to shed light on this.

You can't insert them? As in, they physically won't fit? That doesn't make much sense, the connectors are the same size and shape.
