How do I decode hidden information from a .jpg file?

Joe Phillips December 11, 2010

I have a .jpg file that has coordinates for a geocache hidden nearby. I need to find the coordinates from the .jpg file, and I am stumped. Any suggestions for software?

It might be a rar file... rename the file to .jpg.rar ... then unrar... maybe if it's a rar file, it'll unzip the contents of the file.

The information is stored as exif data in the jpg. This post has free tools to help you strip off the exif data.

The technique is called steganography and we have two posts on it -

I am not absolutely sure, but I think you need to have the same software at the coding end and the decoding end to extract the code.
