What can I use to convert a movie from any extension to divx or .avi?

Roy D. Martin October 13, 2010

I need to download a good graphics / video converter. I have been reading and thinking about the best way to go. Need something easy to do a movie conversion. Most of the time I have an extension of .rar (very confusing).

I will invest some money if needed too. I need to backup my videos.

I run a iMac, Snow Leopard operating system.

Even more confusion for consumers, and these e-payment companies are well known for creating bias policies towards each others systems with big vendors..we're just consumers though unless our opinions effect bottom-lines they are taken with a grain of salt by the white collars..

7-Zip also extracts .rar files. I highly recommend it!

Is there a Mac version? If I knew that, I definitely would have mentioned 7-Zip.

First, the RAR files are compressed archives, like a ZIP file. You would have to extract the files to be able to use it. I found UnRarX available for free for Mac.

Once you extract the file, you may find that you don't need to convert it.

Second, for converting, MUO has a post on MacX DVD ripper and video converter. There are free versions of the apps, but also pro versions available for $39.95.
