You might have violated or overused some of the Facebook features like chatting, messaging, posts etc..You may need to wait for long time to get the block lifted.

Go to account setting, then security and at the bottom of the page there is a link for account deactivation

Go to Account Settings -> Security

    Then click Deactivate Account

This will deactivate you're Facebook account. But if you want to use it again, just login using your email and password and it will be activated again.

If you want your account to be deleted go here:

If you do not think you will use Facebook again and would like your account deleted, we can take care of this for you. Keep in mind that you will not be able to reactivate your account or retrieve any of the content or information you have added. If you would still like your account deleted, click "Delete My Account".

Disclaimer: this is based on the last information that I knew of, which, admittedly, may be slightly old (a few months old).

Getting rid of your FB account entirely is going to be tricky. You can request to close it through a settings option, but then, you have to avoid FB like the plague for awhile (I think it may be as long as 30 days). That means if you read an article online and want to write a comment, but all they have is FB commenting, tough luck; because writing that comment will re-activate your account. Don't accidently click "like" or "share on FB" on a particular article either.
