How can I clear the user assist key?

J October 10, 2011

How can I clear this key and fix it so it stays clear forever? I’d like to fix it without going into registry because I am afraid of messing something up. Thanks!

Do you want to clear keys to remove recentĀ  documents history ?

    Hi J,

Go to your task bar and right click on a blank area in it, then click "properties". Once the form appears, go to the "Start Menu" tab and disable "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu" and "Store and display recently opened items in the start menu and the taskbar" and select "Apply". You must then kill explorer.exe and start it again, or simply restart Windows.
