Why can’t I play MP4 movies on my AWA LC-46G58 TV?

Anonymous March 1, 2014

Hello, I have an AWA LC-46G58 TV. It says in the manual I can play movies and they need to be MPEG4 or MP4, yet when I download a video from UT and convert it to MP4 then put it on my USB drive and try to play it the TV says it can’t recognise the file. Any ideas please ? I also tried it on my TEAC and had the same results. Thank you in advance.

I believe what the manual actually means is a MPEG-4 encoded video within an MP4 container.

Because MP4 files are not all the same. What really is important is the encoding used for the audio and video within. For video that could be the most common h264, but it might aswell be Theora, VP8, MPEG-4, DivX, etc.

So if you "just" converted your file to have a mp4 file extension, it might just be that the encoding is not supported.
