Can you suggest me software that will hide my IP address?

Gurdit Singh Bedi June 28, 2013

I want to change my IP after a certain time to ensure privacy and I have heard about software that allows you to do this. Does this software really work? If yes then please suggest me some good ones!

I have been a seeker of vpn software and it took time of 5 days of research to decide which one is better as for a day i used Hotspot ( free version is slower than u think ) and proxpn ( is hell for US/UK servers may be due to high traffic) for another day, and ended up on PureVPN a US based service it costs me around 10 buck/m but in return unlimited connectivity, secure protocols to hide you completely and uncensored internet that feels freedom.. yes, see , other than if you are looking for any free vpn you will have many options like ibvpn/Hotspot/Cyberghsot,limitation and restriction imposed.. ty

You got some good answers here, but you should also be advised about the limitations.
First of all, VPNs encrypt your communications, but they DON'T hide your IP address (not completely anyway, it depends which logs you're searching).
Services like TOR or anonymiser DO work, but they don't hide your address completely either. While the host (e.g. the web site you're connecting to) will be logging an apparently-random IP address, the traffic between you and the anonymising service still takes place under your real address, and anyone who has access to your computer, router or the ISP's infrastructure will be able to trace it. While it'll be a bit of a job to connect your IP address to any particular "conversation" with another IP address, it is not impossible to do, and as we now know, there are at least some intelligence agencies that are buy doing exactly that... In other words, if you're planning a terrorist attack, don't rely on anonymising software. If you're just watching some pr0n or downloading movies illegally, you're probably safe enough!

    This is a complex one.

For starters, you can use VPN like HotSpot Shield or SpotFlux for free, then go Premium with Express VPN or CyberGhost if you have the money. CyberGhost may I add is offered as a giveaway here in MUO.

If you know your browser internals, then you can configure a http or socks proxy server.

HTTP/HTTPS proxies are easier to find but depends if it's live but less security and anonymity.

SOCKS 4 or 5 proxies on the other hand provide better anonymity but are harder to find, unless you subscribe to a premium SOCKS Proxy package available in some sites.

Try using the TOR browser. Anonymity is what it was made for.
