I would like to watch TV on my laptop, I think that Windows Media has a tv tuner in it, can I use this to hook up my cable box to my laptop?
get a TV tuner...
As others have said, the main thing is you need a "TV capture card" or equivalent. There are a few laptops that have the feature built in, but not many. However, you can get a USB-based converter and use it. As for Windows Media Centre, see this Microsoft page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/media-center-help#media-center-help=windows-7&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1
u need to get an tv tuner
Check out what output options your cable box has, and if they are present on your computer, connect it to that port. Generally, a computer has output pins, not input pins. Thus we need a tv tuner, which for a laptop must be with a USb interface to watch cable box output.
Buy a usb tv tuner card they are cheap these days
,the HDMI port on your laptop is an HDMI out, not an HDMI in unless otherwise noted.
