AVPlayer, VLC app can play the files. directly on your iPhone. (with its player)
Or you can convert the WMV video to MP4 with video converter like freemake, handbreak, any video converter free first, then move the converted to iPhone with iTunes.

You didn't get the Apple's philosophy. If the Iphone can't handle it, than you don't need it, because it is not good, or modern, or innovative enough. Use that Iphone how they imagined for you. Or you have a nother choice, get a rid of that Iphone, and choose a device, which will do almost everything what you can expect from a mobile device. That could be almost any phone which doesn't have IOS, or WP on board...

Windows Media Audio would be quite likely to play on a Windows Phone, don't you think?

Oh wait, sorry, does that run contrary to your Android fanboy nonsense?

iPhones will only play AAC and MP3 formats, so you'll need to convert your files to that format (unless you want to use VLC as Dalsan suggests).
There are plenty of converters out there. If you only have a handful of tracks in WMA, you can use convert them with an online converter such as Zamzar, but if you have lots of files you'll need a batch converter such as Freemake or Free Studio.

You can try using VLC Player for iOS. Like the desktop application, it pays a wide range of video formats, including WMV.
