My portable hard drive is jumping/skipping when I play movie files of all types avi etc. It was working last week. I deleted a couple of files and now jumping. Can this be fixed? Any advice is appreciated.
1. Defragment your drive, you may use windows in-built defragmenter or defraggler. Do not use any other tools.
2. Try using a light weight video player like VLC
3. If the above steps fail to work, Go to the hard disk manufacturer's website, download and run hard disk health check tool, for seagate it's seatools.
If your HDD is in a state of poor health, claim for replacement. In most cases portable hard disks comes with 3 to 5 years warranty
Windows defragmenter won't help in this case, nor will Defraggler since the user is on a Linux system and not Windows.
