How can I access my laptop’s webcam when I am in the office?

Jo October 4, 2014

I want to access the laptop webcam through my iPhone/iPad. I tried Splashtop and it works fine when I’m in the same network. But I want to access it when I’m in my office. Splashtop has way to do this I believe but the procedure seemed quite complicated to me and when I checked the reviews, that doesn’t work for anyone. Do you have any suggestions?

My another question, does WoWLAN actually work? If I want to turn on my laptop remotely, which is on WiFi, do you guys have something to suggest?

Thanks a lot for your time.

Regarding WoWLAN, it does work (with compatible hardware). However, you do understand it will only work if your laptop has a wired connection to the router. You would probably need to get a static address for your router from your ISP though.

I'm not familiar with Splashtop but if that kind of solution is sufficient for you then you could just try another remote access software. TeamViewer is a good choice here since it's free for personal use and it usually doesn't require any additional configuration e.g. on your router/modem to work over the internet.

If you just want to remote view your webcam, not the entire desktop then something like Eyespyfx might be a good solution.

As for WoWLAN I suggest opening a new question and state your laptops make and model because this requires support of both, the wireless adapter as well as the mainboard on top of any system configuration.
