Should I buy a USB 3.0 flash drive even though my PC only has USB 2.0 ports?

Hello all, I’m thinking of buying a new pen drive, perhaps 16 GB, but I’m confused about buying USB 2.0 or 3.0? Since I don’t have a 3.0 USB port, a 3.0 drive will be of no use. On the other hand, what if I upgrade my PC in future?! So, what do you think guys? Would it good to buy a 3.0 now?

well if you will also use the USB key on other pcs with USB 3.0 port then better to get a USB 3.0 key

It also depends on your uses for the drive itself. If it is basic storage and file transfers on occasion, USB 2.0 would be fine since by the time you upgrade your computer, you might want to upgrade to a USB 3.0 drive since it would be cheaper. Even if you don't get a USB 3.0 drive and upgrade the computer later, you wouldn't notice a difference in speed since you would be used to it.

The choice is purely yours, but I would weigh the options on price, features, storage space, and reviews on speed for the drives on USB 2.0 ports. You may get a better quality drive in USB 2.0 for the same price as a lower quality and featured, andpossibly storage size, USB 3.0 drive. Get the best you can comfortably afford.

It really depends on what you're willing to spend. If a 2.0 drive is just a dollar or two less than a 3.0 one, I'd spend it just to future-proof.

After a quick search on Amazon, this looks like a good purchase. $15 for a 32GB flash drive that's 3.0 compatible.

We'll only be seeing more of 3.0 in the future, so I'd recommend getting it now unless you absolutely can't spare the extra few dollars. Just make sure you're not getting ripped off. For example, the "Regular Price" of this drive on Best Buy's site is absurd.
