Is there an app that can identify unknown callers?

I want to identify callers on my mobile when the number appears as unknown. Is there an app that can do this?

There are several reasons why a phone number may show up as "unknown" on your phone:
    1. It is not in your address book, in which case follow Fidelis' or Susendeep's advice.

    2. A call is coming from a foreign network (e.g. from abroad), and caller ID information was not passed on. There's nothing you can do about this - the number is unknown to *your network*, not just to you.

    3. The person calling you chose to hide their phone number (this is an option in many countries). You obviously can't do anything about that on your phone (since the caller's ID was not sent to your phone), but if it's a serious case, such as theatening phone calls, you can call your phone carrier or the police and ask them to investigate. In most cases it is possible to trace the call back, but as it requires resources, and cooperation between the phone company and the police, they will be reluctant to do this unless the case clearly warrants it.

you can ask officials to monitor your phone calls and to track unidentified callers

Why would it be a joke? It's a valid question, but that doesn't mean it's possible.

No, its not possible. The number is hidden, often via a foreign exchange network. If the number was available, it would be shown. It's a disgusting practice, I agree, and it should be banned from all networks.

Hello, it would have helped a lot if you had posted the operating system of your phone....or at least the brand name and model.

If you have an android, you could try the following:

    for Iphone:

Make sure to read the description of these apps....also check the reviews and most importantly review the terms of service and pricing.

Neither of those work. All they do is look up info on the number. Which this person *doesnt have*.
