How can I add iCalendar links into Google Calendar?

ender December 26, 2010

I have some newsletters that have the option of clicking on a link and it would add a certain date or appointment in ics format. I think that is something for Outlook, right?

However, I don’t use outlook, but want those links go into Google Calendar because that is what I use. Is that possible?

I unsuccessfully looked for a Chrome or Firefox addon. Can someone here help me and tell whether such a plugin or addon exists? Thank you!

Here's one way to do it (at least on Windows)

    1) If you don't use already use Outlook, install it. You don't have to use Outlook for anything but as a way-station - you can still use your current method. Outlook will be the application on your pc that responds to the ICS file appearing on your pc.

    2) Follow these instructions to sync outlook with google calendar.
This step gets the ICS file to upload to your Google Calendar.

    Add to Google Calendar
Allows events in iCal (*.ics) files to be easily added to Google Calendar

    GCal ICS importer:
Windows tool for automatically importing .ics files to Google Calendar without using email client software.
small .NET application to do just that. If you associate the .ics extension to this application, whenever you either double click a .ics file or click a link to one, this application will import it to the google calendat that you configure, and it works with google hosted domains.

Import events from iCalendar or CSV files Print

To import events from iCalendar or CSV files, just follow these steps:

1.Click the Add down-arrow button at the bottom of the calendar list on the left side of the page, and select Import Calendar.
2.Click Browse and choose the file that contains your events, then click Open.
3.Select the Google Calendar where you'd like to import events, then click Import.
Please note that recurring events may not be recognized when importing events from CSV files. In this case, individual items will be created for recurring events that fall between the dates you've selected.

    Calendar export
    1)iCal quick link
2)Export options for an ics file
    3)URL file
