My tutor gave me an old laptop, but I only know the student login. The system needs up-dating with VLC player, new browser, etc. But I need the login details for the admin account which aren’t known. How can I get into the admin account?
at login page continuosly press ctrl+alt+delete
You can use software to recover or remove the lost password, then you can be able to access the computer. Ophcrack and Rekeysoft Windows Password Recovery are papular, you can get a try.
First and foremost, I would recommend that you try calling and emailing your tutor so that you know that you have permission to access an admin account on the laptop. The tutor can give you the log in info. Using computer privileges beyond what you are allowed to use can be an ethics violation and violate some policy you agreed to. In some situations it can be criminally charged.
If the device was given to you, as in it is your property, I would still recommending contacting the tutor, however, you could download a little program called Kon-Boot which lets you boot up to a temporary Admin account. You download the program, burn it to a cd, and boot up to it. It gives you a temporary Admin account which is good for situations like this. Simply restart your computer as you normally would to use the computer normally.
If you want to retrieve the password try using OPHCrack. it uses rainbow tables to crack passwords. There are online free websites available if you dont want to download your own Rainbow Tables.
Download Peter Nordahl's password resetter from http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/, install it onto a CD or USB drive and boot up from it to reset the Administrator's password.
If the laptop has CD writer, then you can use Hiren boot CD to reset the password -
You cant! Thing is, windows 2000 was built on the basis of the NT kernel, and thus will not allow access without password. You cant even set up an admin account without a password.
