In your April 2011 Newsletter, the HTC Desire is quoted at $69.99 (approx £43) from US Cellular, while Amazon UK quote £300 plus for what appears to be the same phone. Why this huge difference and is there any possibility of cheaper UK mobiles? Or have you or I made a mistake?

The US cellular price of $69.99 is the price after receiving a rebate of US$80 and signing up for two years on a contract. http://www.uscellular.com/uscellular/cell-phones/showPhoneDetails.jsp?productId=prod10028The Amazon price is (most likely) an outright sale, meaning you can sign up for a pay-as-you-go plan or a contract for calls and internet wherever you like after you buy it. However, if you're going to get a contract anyway, you'll probably be able to find the HTC desire for a similarly low fee in the UK. If you try Orange, for instance, you can get the HTC desire for no upfront cost if you sign up for a plan of £30 or more per month for your calls and internet access. [Broken URL Removed]Other providers probably have equally competitive prices, too. Good luck!

Many thanks for the detailed information. What at first glance seemed to be a bargain isn't ! As a " mature" person I somehow do not see myself buying this after all.
