Whenever new technologies arrive, many people expect their prices to increase. However, AMD has bucked this trend with the announcement that it will launch its new Ryzen 7000 series chips at similar—or even lower prices! So, how much will AMD's Ryzen 7000 chips cost, and how will this impact you when buying a new laptop or PC?

Ryzen 7000 vs. Ryzen 5000 Release Prices

When Dr. Lisa Su announced the release of the Ryzen 7000 Series Desktop Processors, she also announced its prices near the end of the presentation. So, these are the prices of AMD's latest Ryzen 7000 offerings. We'll also compare the prices of the chips against its comparable Ryzen 5000 model.

Although the Ryzen 5 7600X and Ryzen 9 7900X retained their launch prices, the Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 9 7950X received price cuts of $50 and $100, respectively. This is actually great news, given that many expect computer hardware prices to rise in 2022.

Ryzen 7000 vs. Intel 12th-Gen Prices

Of course, it's also important to compare Ryzen 7000 with Intel's 12th-Generation chips. Although Intel's Alder Lake processors are almost a year old by now, they're still powerful chips that the Ryzen 7000 will go against head-to-head when it hits store shelves on September 27, 2022.

These chips are nowhere near an apples-to-apples comparison, as you can't compare CPUs from different brands correctly based on their number of cores or clock speeds. The correct way of measuring CPU performance is by using benchmark results from similarly specced test benches. However, since we don't have benchmark results from the Ryzen 7000 series yet, these are just the chips that we think approximate each other's performance.

Nevertheless, except for the Ryzen 5 7600X, we can see that AMD's offerings undercut similar chips from Intel between $10 and $40.

Ryzen 7000 Delivers More Power Per Dollar

Given that the Ryzen 7000 sells for similar or lower prices than the Ryzen 5000, we can safely say that you're getting more value for money with AMD's newest processors. And if AMD's latest offering performs better than Intel's Alder Lake chips, you can bet that PC builders will choose the Ryzen 7000, as it just makes sense. After all, what's not to like with more power for less money?

Will Intel Make Their Chips More Affordable, Too?

With increasing inflation affecting everything in 2022, including cars from Tesla and Ford and Sony's PlayStation 5, AMD's move to retain and even decrease the prices of its latest generation processors is a breath of fresh air.

And if the Ryzen 7000 performs as expected, we're hoping it will make Intel lower the prices of its 12th-Generation chips (which seems likely, as Intel's 13th Generation is allegedly due for launch on September 27—AMD's Ryzen 7000 launch date). Again, this goes to show that with innovation and competition, it's the consumer who will benefit in the end.
