Amazon has announced the launch of a comprehensive program called WorkingWell aimed at reducing the risk of workplace injuries and improving the healthcare quality for employees.

WorkingWell is a part of the tech giant's plan of becoming "Earth's Safest Place to Work" and should help the company succeed in lowering the incident rates by 50 percent by 2025.

Amazon Is Trying to Minimize Workplace Injuries

Amazon is planning on taking the necessary measurements to minimize the risk of injuries occurring at its sites. Moreover, the company has decided to invest more than $300 million into safety projects in 2021.

As a part of those plans, Amazon has rolled out a new health and safety program that should provide its workers with physical, mental, and nutritional support.

However, the program is not completely new to Amazon workers since its testing started back in 2019. Currently, WorkingWell is already being used by 859,000 Amazon employees at 350 sites.

The good news is that the program has already proven to be effective. According to the Amazon press release, WorkingWell has reduced the number of musculoskeletal disorders, which comprised about 40 percent of the injuries:

Pilots of the WorkingWell program have reduced these injuries, and have had a positive impact on regular day-to-day activities for employees outside of work. In fact, this program—along with other company initiatives focused on early MSD prevention—helped decrease MSD-related injuries by 32 percent from 2019 to 2020.

A Safety Culture Hub For Amazon Employees

WorkingWell consists of several components that, according to the source, cover "training and conditioning, wellness services, and technology."

The program includes an element called Heath & Safety Huddles, which provides the company's workers with daily opportunities to meet near work stations and watch educational videos on topics like gripping and handling, nutrition, and more.

For those that are in need of voluntary stretching and muscle recovery, the company has come up with Wellness Zones. There also are AmaZen stations that offer the workers mindfulness practices and wellbeing activities.

Another element of the WorkingWell program called EatWell is aimed at increasing awareness of healthy eating. And according to Amazon, it "has helped over 50 percent of surveyed employees make healthier choices."

Moreover, soon Amazon will launch a WorkingWell mobile app that will allow its employees to access from their homes a digital library filled with all of the onsite health and safety offerings.

Amazon Is Becoming a Better Workplace

There's no denying it, Amazon is trying to improve the onsite safety and the wellbeing of its employees. And since the WorkingWell program is already giving positive results, the online retailer will continue to expand it further onto its sites.
