Users of Amazon's almost-instant Prime Now service have awoken to some bad news today; Amazon is ditching Prime Now. However, all is not lost...

Amazon Prime Now to Retire in 2021

According to an Amazon news post, the retail brand plans to end its Prime Now service and kill the app off "by the end of this year." All this in a week that has seen Amazon embroiled in a fake reviews scandal with Aukey.

But if you are a Prime Now customer, you shouldn't worry. The bones of the service (convenient, almost immediate delivery) are just going to be shifting over to the Amazon app, keeping everything in one place rather than have two separate apps.

Sophie Landry, Amazon Grocery Vice President, says:

To make this experience even more seamless for customers, we are moving the experience from a separate Prime Now app onto the Amazon app and website so customers can shop all Amazon has to offer from one convenient location.

So, you'll still get those same services, they'll just be inside one convenient app, meaning you don't have to flit back and forth between two.

What Prime Now Services Will Be Available?

Although Prime Now—as a standalone service—is leaving for good in 2021, its customers will still be able to enjoy the benefits of expedited goods.

The blog post tells us what we can expect from the integrated service. It starts with this:

One convenient app for shopping, tracking orders, and contacting customer service. While the experience may vary slightly by country, customers in the U.S. can shop Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods Market by searching those stores on Amazon.com or the Amazon app.

So, the same stores that service Amazon Prime Now will still be available following the integration. It goes on:

The same ultrafast delivery on everyday essentials, gifts, toys, high quality groceries, and more you've come to expect with Prime Now—available on Amazon.

The two-hour delivery window on Prime Now goods will also remain. And finally:

A seamless shopping experience with features like the ability to add items to your ultrafast order until we begin preparing, quick access to your favorites under past purchases, recommendations, and items trending in your area.

US customers can add items from their Alexa shopping list to their Amazon Fresh or Wholefoods shopping carts ready to buy instantly.

So, you'll still get all the benefits of Prime Now, just under a different umbrella, so to speak.

You Can Still Enjoy Speedy Amazon Delivery

Don't worry if you use the Prime Now service. Once Amazon retires the app in the US (it has already left app stores in India, Singapore, and Japan), you can just fire the Amazon app up and have your groceries delivered almost straight away.
