Last year's Amazfit launch party at CES 2020 featured renowned violinists, copious amounts of free food, and endless rows of devices for you to check out.

The virtual nature of CES 2021 meant that there was no repeat of those scenes this time around, but there were still some exciting new product launches that grabbed headlines.

Most notably, the GTR 2e and GTS 2e smartwatches were unveiled. They are similar to the Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 smartwatches they were released in November 2020, but some of the tech has been stripped out to give them a lower price point.

For example, Wi-Fi is now gone, as is all the internal storage (there is 3GB of storage on the GTR 2 and GTS 2 versions, so it is a big drop). The lack of storage means you will not be able to download music onto the watch to listen to while you work out, and the absence of Wi-Fi forces you to use Bluetooth for connectivity.

On the upside, Bluetooth is less battery intensive than Wi-Fi; the watch can now last for 45 days on a single charge. Users will also be glad to learn that the heart rate monitor survived the cull.

Neither watch uses Google's Wear OS. Instead, they rely on Huami's own operating system. The OS can still show notifications from your phone, but it is not quite as feature-laden as Google's edition.

The only difference between the two new models is the design. GTR 2e has a circular aluminum chassis with a 1.65-inch screen; the GTS 2e has a square chassis and a 1.39-inch screen. Both are waterproof to 50 meters.

The new Amazfit GTR 2e and GTS 2e smartwatches are available today for $140. You can buy them on Amazon or in Amazfit's online own store.

Amazfit at CES 2021

Of course, Amazfit was also keen to show off its other recently released-products at CES 2021.

Top of the list is the Amazfit Bip U Series. Designed to be a fitness tracker that costs sub-$100, it offers a range of features that will appeal to fitness fanatics. They include:

  • Blood oxygen measuring
  • 24/7 heart rate monitoring
  • Sleep quality monitoring
  • A health assessment system
  • Stress level monitoring
  • More than 60 sports modes
  • Water resistance of up to 5 meters
  • Nine-day battery life

Including the strap, the whole watch weighs just 31 grams; it is so light you won't even know you are wearing it.
