With the 1Password 8 update, they have primarily focused on refreshing the design of the password manager, along with some feature improvements to boost productivity.

Design Overhaul

The user interface refresh in 1Password 8 aims to blend in with Windows 11 to provide a seamless experience. That being said, you still get the same experience on Windows 10, only with minor noticeable differences, at least in design alone.

You get full support for the light and dark theme. It lets you stick with your system's preference or tweak the theme as per your choice.

The app presents all the functionalities and data in a simple and organized manner that makes things accessible. For instance, you can create vaults directly from the sidebar, find a recently deleted item, and dash through your essential data using collections.

The new design also extends to the browser extension, which provides you with a consistent user experience.

Security and Privacy Improvements

1Password finally added the much-needed Watchtower dashboard to give you insights into your passwords.

In other words, it provides you with the overall password health status where you get to know the number of weak passwords, reused passwords, data breach alerts, inactive two-step authentication tokens, and any insecure website associated with your credentials.

If you are subscribed to 1Password for families or business, you can easily share the passwords using a shared vault.

Quick Access Feature

This latest version brings in a new quick access feature that lets you launch 1Password anytime as an overlay without needing to leave the app. This helps you save a lot of time searching for your passwords.

The quick access feature also learns your behavior and makes suggestions based on the active app. It supports some advanced search functions, making it the perfect companion as a 1Password launcher on Windows. All you have to do is press Ctrl + Shift + Spacebar to get the quick access search bar.

Catalogs to Create Items Faster

Typically, you have to type in the website URL, title, and credentials to create an item in 1Password.

However, with 1Password 8, you get a list of popular choices. These let you pre-fill the website address and title. The choices are available in different collections that include popular logins, cryptocurrency basics, and travel essentials.

1Password 8: Other Improvements

In addition to the key changes mentioned in 1Password's announcement, you get a variety of new stuff that should improve your experience with 1Password on Windows.

Some of these include:

  • Markdown support for notes.
  • Vault creation within the app.
  • Ability to restore recently deleted items or versions of credentials.
  • Share items using a link.
  • Performance boost.

Overall, 1Password 8 looks like an exciting release with a much-needed visual makeover.
