I’m a Canadian and was deep sea fishing a few years back just off the cost of plum island massachusetts. I got talking with a few of the locals on the boat and they were blown away to learn that I was Canadian. For one they couldn’t believe it because I didn’t say “eh” after all my sentences. Another question that really stood out was the fact someone asked me why we still live in igloos….
I have some stories like that, too.
To defend those poor Americans, however, I have to say that I know some very smart and well educated ones, who do not confuse all the facts and know what they are talking about.
It sounds silly, but even knowing the stereotypes (except the woefully wrong ones like the igloos) is some form of knowledge of the country/culture. And I imagine in some parts people do talk like the sterotype.. Not all Americans talk like the people in the movie Fargo, but it a heck of a lot from that area do… America and Canada and other MASSIVELY large countries really cant take offense to many sterotypes, because in all honestly there are probably enough people that do fit it to justify it to some level.
Look at how many “Americans are dumb” comments are here… Obviously not all Americans are dumb, but enough are that it is hard to dispute the sterotype completely.
will, there are to many stupid people(and not only in the USA). I was watching TV in Romania and, in our capital, some were surprised the Earth is circling around the Sun and not the other way around.

Yeah i’ve seen lots of Americans that doesn’t even know what happened outside US.. so close minded.. They don’t even care what’s outside it.. And yet they calling other’s bad things (terrorist, etc).. Do they even teach them geography at school??
It’s not the fault of single people, it’s the society as a whole that shapes them.

tsk3x. but hey, they’re not confined only to the united states, so it’s all good I guess. my brother once thought I was pulling his leg when I told him Turkey is a country. And we are Spanish, Turkey’s practically our neighbor!
